Dorothy’s ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz. The Bates Motel in Psycho. The warm colors of The Godfather. These are all famous examples of a movie’s production design.
More than just props and furniture, production design encompasses nearly everything you physically see in a movie. A film’s overall color scheme, its locations and costumes – they are all production design. Even hair and make-up, its production design.
Most low-budget films suffer from poor production design. It’s not only difficult to find a talented designer to help, it is also very expensive to do what is necessary to achieve an effective overall look.

Fortunately, I have been blessed with Macha Suzuki on my team as production designer. He is an incredibly gifted artist and has been working hard to create a look for my film that will best support my vision and the nature of our story.
In addition to Macha, his wife, Melissa, also a gifted artist, has been contributing tremendously with set-design in particular. She has an acute sensibility for textures, fabrics, shapes and patterns. And, together, they have come up with an amazing overall design.
Our next step is to execute the design by securing various elements such as props and furnishings and then installing them at our locations. In the meantime, please take a look at these images Macha and Melissa are using to guide them.

Will the movie be shot in the Autumn?

I think you’re referring to the warm colors, right??? There definitely is an Autumn feel – you’re right.
The choice was purely instinctive, though. For some reason, warm colors felt right for the film. It has to do with the state the lead character is in, i.e., her life is on hold for a man… But I like the connection with Autumn. In fact, she discusses the seasons at one point in the script!
