Film 3, July 21 – 27: Coalemus
With Ricky, Chris, and Guillaume on board for Film 3, I knew I had to make a comedy.
I wanted to collaborate closely with them, so after developing the basic idea, we got together and fleshed out the characters and their lines.
This idea also allowed me to set-up the camera and lights only once, without the need to operate camera. This freed me up, enabling me to collaborate further with the actors during filming rather than worry about technicalities.
The backstage of a party was the stage for this one!
Loving these on so many levels! Goldfish in a tank.. DAM.. freakin’ loved it. Also love the God/Goddess or Spirits these are all named after. Great stuff!
So good. A goldfish in a tank…..damn. Haha. Made my night. Good stuff, Chris.
Thanks, Tim!
This movie is hilarious! I love how you manage to get all these personalities into one setting. It made me laugh and interested to see what would happen next. Great work on your first comedy! Another successful movie, Chris.

That was so funny! Poor, silly boys! The grunt at the very end was a perfect conclusion. I also love that each one of your films has been so different.
Great to hear from you, Kim. You know, I have to say, making very different films really has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of this project. When making one film, you really stress over the stylistic approach, but when you are making multiple films, then you can really explore and have fun!
Hope to hear more from you :)
Hi Chris!!
Oh, wow! What an accomplishment on all three films!! I thoroughly enjoyed them all and you have inspired me!!! I’d like to share a quote with you from Jean Cocteau “film will only become an art when its materials are as inexpensive as pencil and paper”. Clearly you are on the right path. I can’t wait to see the next 4 films!! Your first two films were like visual poetry. Both simple yet really captivating, which speaks volumes in regards to your potential. I was wondering if you’ve seen “Tree of Life” by Terrance Malick? If not, run to see it if it’s still showing in theaters. I was hugely inspired by his work and I think it will speak to the heart of you. You share a similar perspective on how you see the world. It is chilling.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply, Talin. I totally love the quote and it’s so darn true. You know, I’ve always wondered what the New Wave filmmakers and Indie forefathers, Cassavetes in particular, would do with video??? Can you imagine?
Like our brains, I’m convinced that we’re using less than 10% of our potential. And I’m not talking about green screen, SFX type stuff. I’m talking about our freedom! Okay, enough of that! LOL
Believe it or not, I haven’t seen TREE yet, but I will; I promise….
Thank you again!!!

Thank you for all the recent comments! I really appreciate hearing from friends in response to my films!
K.J., I agree, we sure are pathetic at times! LOL
Guys are pathetic, aren’t we? That was fun. I liked the way it built– props on the editing– and I liked that hapless fellow who wandered in and sat on the bowl. But then, I like Zach Galifianakis. I’m easy like that.
We sure are! LOL
Yea!!!!! HAHA!! Awesomeness;) And very handsome men!
LOL!!!! so funny!….everyone is a great actor in this film. Fabulous CJ :)
“I am funny” that was a good one :)
The accent helped also…
Best short yet!
OMG!!! I can’t believe this film! I laughed sooooooo hard! Totally made my day. Love those boys!
I totally want to film our in black in white now..pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaasssee?! Ok, you’re the director,
it’s your vision. :)
Oh man, Cassidy – I don’t know… Let’s see what you and Elena (and the Greek spirit for the week) inspire me to do! BTW, Macha will be shooting this week :)
Ha. Definitely made me smile (& cringe)! lol.
I finally made that comedy you’ve been challenging me with, Chuck! :)
Bagoo, that was pretty funny. Keep making the comedy.
Great to hear from you, Ted! Thank you for the encouragement!!!
