Calling All Actors!

I’m excited to announce that Jennifer and I will be posting the breakdown for our film today.
In case you don’t know, a breakdown summarizes a film and its various character roles, which is then posted online for actors and agents to review. If interested, they submit actor “head shots” and resumes for consideration, after which a lucky few are invited to audition.
Jennifer and I will hold auditions next week and share the results with you right here on the blog! In the meantime, take a look at our breakdown below:
BETHANY:
FEMALE/LEAD/28-32: an attractive, approachable woman caught between emotion and reason. A reunion with Rob, her ex-boyfriend, has awakened fond memories, triggering her vivid imagination and filling her with hope. But can she trust him? He crushed her before; will he do it again? Her mind says no; her heart says yes.
The role of Bethany is an incredible opportunity to establish one’s on-screen presence and capacity. She is in every scene with a broad range of emotions. It will be intense and challenging, demanding much concentration and preparation.
ROB:
MALE/LEAD/28-33/CAUCASIAN or MIXED ETHNICITY: Small town star athlete turned big city business man. He looks stunning in a suit, but prefers jeans and a T-shirt. While bold and confident at work, he is easy-going and patient with friends. Like most men, he lives in the moment and pays his ex-girlfriend, Bethany, a surprise visit. Though he misses her, seeing her again is the worst thing he can do to her.
ALEX:
MALE/SUPPORTING/30-35: An absolute sweetheart; Bethany’s most beloved and wisest friend. He knows Bethany inside out and wants nothing more than to see her thrive, which is why he is adamantly against her reuniting with her ex-boyfriend. Alex is expressive and honest with Bethany; he speaks from the heart, which sometimes results in pushing her too hard.
THE OTHER WOMAN:
FEMALE/NON-DIALOGUE/STRONGLY FEATURED/20-29: A figment of Bethany’s imagination, The Other Woman embodies absolute perfection from head to toe. Without uttering a word, she quietly, yet potently radiates absolute charm and loveliness with her eyes and disposition.
STORY SYNOPSIS: When her ex-boyfriend, Rob, reappears, Bethany finds herself trapped by indecision: should she give him another chance? He broke her heart before. Will he do it again? Caught in the crosshairs of emotion and reason, Bethany’s heart aches and her body yearns. Rob is talented, kind and sexy and his sincere desire to reunite plagues Bethany with a simple, yet excruciating decision. A decision that triggers intimate memories and a menacing imagination. There is no easy way out. There is no savior. For Bethany, there is only a decision that must be made.
Set primarily in one location through the course of one day, this intimate drama roams in and out of Bethany’s mind, weaving reality with the imaginary. Its unpredictable approach is both reflective and punchy at the same time.

Cheers! I see you write scripts! I am part of a small amateur shrot movie company here in spain… any advice???^^
Short films are great, Marta! Here are my tips:
1. Keep it short – definitely under 12 minutes. Festivals like shorts under 10 minutes since they are easier to program.
2. Don’t try telling a HUGE story! Rather, make the short about a moment, a mood, a scene. There can be a beginning, middle and end, but keep it overall small in scope. Maybe one location, one actor, etc..
3. Make it very, very unique. There are thousands of people out there that can make a short film that looks like a mini Hollywood movie – who cares! Make something unique in both content and style. Shorts are to experiment, not to be mainstream.
4. Make it for very, very cheap. You’re not going to get your money back (in most cases) and you have to spend money on festival submissions, so make something amazing for cheap, which, actually, will separate you from the rest!
5. DO IT!!! :)
Looking forward to see how is cast in the role of “THE OTHER WOMAN”. I guess it will be a difficult cast showing emotion without saying a word. Plus she was to look “perfect”… good luck with that one :)
Non-dialogue parts are very, very difficult: you must communicate without words! I’m really beginning to think a professional model is going to work out best, rather than a traditional actress…. I’ll definitely post photos and info once I find her!!!
